Joshua Henkel

Director of Youth and Camping Services

Joshua Henkel has worked at the Mid-Island Y JCC as Director of Youth and Camping for the past four years. Josh oversees all Youth, Teen, and Camp Programs both here at the Mid-Island Y JCC and at our off-site camp facility. Josh started in 2001 as Teen Supervisor for 5 years, and moved on to gain experience in camping in the private sector. Josh has extensive experience working with children, creating innovative programming, strong communication skills and the ability to enrich the lives of your children through an amazing camping experience. He believes that our youth center and summer camps provide children with spirited and unique experiences that help them grow, learn, have fun and create friendships that will last a lifetime.

Karen Bogart

Youth and Camping Coordinator

Karen has over 22 years experience in the Youth and Camping field. After spending 13 years as a Senior Supervisor at a private day camp, she now coordinates our youth, teen, and camp programs. Karen helps oversee our Afterschool Classes and is the Youth Department’s “go to” person who is always there to assist you and point you in the right direction.

Harrison Peck

Youth and Teen Program Supervisor

Harrison has a Bachelor’s Degree in Youth Development from Springfield College in Massachusetts and has been involved in the JCC movement since he was in high school. Prior to coming to the Mid-Island Y JCC family, Harrison was a counselor and Sport Supervisor at JCC Camps in Mid-Westchester. Currently Harrison helps oversee our Second Home Daycare Program, Teen Volunteer Opportunities, our Teen travel Camp, our newest edition, the Mid-Island Y JCC Learning Center.

Gayle Jukofsky

Youth and Teen Program Supervisor

Gayle has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Masters of Science in Education with a Specialization in Counseling. She has been a part of the Mid-Island Y JCC since she was a camper in 1998 and refers to the Mid-Island Y JCC as her “Second Home.” Currently, Gayle helps oversee our Teen Lounge, Teens As Leaders Program, Crossing Borders, Vacation Programs, and Regents Review Program.

Susan Stern
Ext. 352

Second Home Daycare Supervisor

Susan has been part of the Mid-Island Y JCC for more than 27 years. She started out as a teacher for our afterschool classes and has worked in our Second Home Daycare Program for 19 years. Currently, Sue supervises more than staff members and 200 children from 12 different schools in the Plainview and Syosset school districts. In addition, she helps oversee and plan our daily activites and the day-to-day operation of the day-to-day program.

Our Facility

The Mid-Island Y JCC Youth Department uses classrooms in the JCC for all of our programs. The facility also includes our outdoor playgrounds, dance studio, art room, teen lounge, Olympic size swimming pool, and 3 gymnasium areas for active play each day.
