Our Staff And Facility
Mid-Island Y JCC Mission
The Mid-Island Y JCC fitness staff is committed to providing clean and comfortable facilities operated by a courteous and knowledgeable staff. We pride ourselves in bringing member’s exceptional service and the best programs all within a family-oriented environment.
Staff
Our staff is comprised of over 14 certified professional trainers with varied backgrounds in sports, physical therapy and exercise science. Our highly educated and experienced fitness staff holds themselves to the highest standards in the industry, all being certified through a nationally recognized personal training organization. Certified personal trainers are available during operating hours for one-on-one and group training or at the Fitness Desk to answer your questions and assist you with your workout needs.
George Loft

Fitness & Recreation Director
George is our newest addition to the JCC staff, but comes to us with more than 22 years of experience in the areas of exercise physiology and sports medicine. For the past 4 years George held the title of head strength and conditioning coordinator and the assistant baseball coach for Dowling College. Prior to that George was the General Manager of Long island Sports and Fitness, a coach for the Long island Junior Ducks and several high school football teams, as well as large summer camps and clinics. George holds a B.S. in Sports Medicine & Exercise Physiology and is certified in CSCS.
Barbara Sachs Traina

Group Fitness Director
Barbara has been a member of the JCC staff for more than 30 years. She has spent 20 years teaching dance and group fitness to various age groups, including a specialization in movement for pre-school aged children. Currently, Barbara creates programming for the Flexfit and specialty group exercise classes and is the Senior Advisor for Silversneakers. She comes with a background in nutrition, has her AFAA certification, as well as a Personal Training certification from IFTA. Her main goal is to offer her clients the latest trends in group fitness and help them maintain a healthy lifestyle by offering classes that fit their individual needs.
Jason Petite

Fitness Center Director
Jason has been a trainer for the past 8 years. He has obtained a bachelor’s degree in physical education/sports medicine and an associate’s degree as a fitness specialist. He is a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (N.A.S.M). Jason has worked as a consultant for local school districts to enhance their on/off season sports training programs and has done extensive work with clients who are post physical therapy. Jason joined the team at the Mid-Island Y in the fall of 2010 and has since done his best to enhance the member’s workout experience within our fitness centers.

• The fitness center at the Mid-Island Y offer our members cardio and strength equipment from leaders in the fitness industry Life Fitness and Cybex.
• Cardio Equipment: Treadmills, Ellipticals, Upright Bikes, Recumbent Bikes, Rowers, Steppers, and Upper Body Ergometers.
• Strength Equipment: Dumbbells, Barbells, Cable Tower, Smith Machine, Benches, Resistance Bands, BOSU Balls, Stability Balls and full line of selectorized equipment.

Fitness Classes
Flex-Fit Classes - Free to members! Available to everyone. You have the ability to pre-register for a semester, or drop-in on a class. Non-Member fees apply.
Specialty Classes - Available to everyone. You have the ability to pre-register for a semester, or drop-in on a class. Member and non-member fees apply.
