Mission
The Mid-Island Y Jewish Community Center, as a Center of Jewish life, shall be an instrument for Jewish identity, personal growth, family strength and community cohesion as well as promote harmony with the community at large. As an instrument of Jewish identity, the Mid-Island Y Jewish Community Center must provide activities which heighten Jewish awareness, establish links to the state of Israel, foster tradition, heritage, culture and maintain a facility in which all Jews, regardless of individual persuasion, can associate. As an instrument for personal growth, the Mid-Island Y Jewish Community Center must provide activities which foster social interaction, develop a sense of well-being, encourage academic challenge and allow for participation in the process of planning. As an instrument of family strength, the Mid-Island Y Jewish Community Center must provide activities which encourage family interaction through recreation, Jewish observances, role clarification and shared experiences. As an instrument for community cohesion, the Mid-Island Y Jewish Community Center must provide a location in which the Jewish community can come together for security, planning, observances, crisis and find leadership which is responsive and supportive. In addition to maintaining the vital balance for individuals and families, the Mid-Island Y Jewish Community Center must be an instrument for those in need of special services through the provision of activities which support problem solving or for referral to other systems more capable of serving special needs. These services shall be offered to individuals regardless of race, religion, creed or ability to pay all fees established for such service.
